The long awaited for ICS graphical interface for the Macintosh that works using TCP has arrived. This program was originally written by Joe Peterson in 1992 but was only able to work using a serial modem connection and lacked a user interface. Several updates have been released since then, E-ICS among them. However, none of the currently available interfaces for the mac work, using TCP, they all require a modem. I took Joe Peterson's original code and re-wrote the network portion and together with Siggy Mandel mac-intized Joe's original version 0.0. I have set the default connection host to be the current US chess server at MIT (as of 7/29/93) and the default port to be 5000. These can be permanently changed using resedit and editing the DITL resource. The default is for a 'registered' user (requiring both login and password). If you like to sign on as 'unregistered' or if you are a new user make sure you uncheck the box. This program will work on different monitor configurations. I have not tested it extensively on different machines so I would appreciate your feedback. All the commands can be typed in directly onto the text portion of the window. To make a move simply drag a piece to its new position. You can disconnect either from the menu or by typing 'quit'. There is a pause button at the bottom of the chess board for long scrolls (ie. who v) because there is no way to scroll back up. All messages directed to you will appear highlighted.
